Sermoneta



Sermoneta is an Italian town of 9 911 inhabitants in the province of Latina in Lazio.

The territory of Sermoneta was already populated in the archaic era. In its territory, near the present Abbey of Valvisciolo stood the ancient volsca city of Sulmo, mentioned by Virgil in the Aeneid.

Caetani Castle



The origins of the Caetani castle, located in the medieval village of Sermoneta, date back to the 13th century. when the Holy See entrusted the cities of Sermoneta, Bassiano, San Donato and other territories annexed to the baronial family of the Annibaldi.

The Annibaldi built an imposing fortress characterized by the Maschio, a 42 meters high tower and a counter tower, called Maschietto. The fortress represented the fulcrum of city life, with the Church of San Pietro in Corte built in Piazza d'Armi and the large cistern for collecting rainwater built to remedy the lack of water due to the high geographical position.

Abbey of Valvisciolo



The Abbey of Valvisciolo is an abbey located in the province of Latina, between Sermoneta, the oasis of Ninfa and Latina Scalo. Built in rigorous Roman-Cistercian style, it is one of the greatest masterpieces of its kind in the province after the abbey of Fossanova. According to tradition, this abbey was founded in the XII century. by the Greek monks and was occupied and restored by the Templars in the thirteenth century. When in the 14th century this order was dissolved, the Cistercians took over.

Monti Lepini



The Monti Lepini are a mountain range of Lazio belonging to the Lazio Apennines, entirely contained in Lazio, located between the provinces of Latina and Rome and with a small extension in the province of Frosinone.
It borders to the north with the Albanian hills, to the east with the Sacco valley, to the south with the Seine hills (hilly ridge that connects them to the Ausoni Mountains), to the south-east with the Amaseno valley and to the west with the Agro pontine. The highest peak is Mount Evervisa with its 1536 meters.

Si tratta di un tipico giardino all'inglese, iniziato da Gelasio Caetani nel 1921, nell'area della scomparsa cittadina medioevale di Ninfa, di cui oggi rimangono soltanto diversi ruderi, alcuni dei quali restaurati durante la creazione del bellissimo giardino.

The Gardens of Ninfa

Today the Garden of Ninfa is a natural monument of the Italian Republic located in the territory of the municipality of Cisterna di Latina, on the border with Norma and Sermoneta. It is a typical English garden, started by Gelasio Caetani in 1921, in the area of the disappeared medieval city of Ninfa, of which only a few ruins remain, some of which have been restored during the creation of the beautiful garden.

The lake of Fogliano



The lake of Fogliano is a lake located in the Agro Pontino. Among the coastal lakes of the Pontine region (Fogliano, Caprolace, Monaci, Paola) it is the largest, about 395 ha. The inhabited nucleus of Borgo Fogliano, originally formed by families dedicated to fishing, gave its name to the lake and the famous Villa Fogliano of the Caetani family.
